| Old Growth Forests is committed to
setting aside forest land to protect and regenerate old growth forest.
We believe there should be some forest which is
completely and permanently off limits to the axe or saw.
Trees are living beings. We therefore believe
some of them should be permitted to live the duration of their natural
lives in a perpetual natural environment within the complex ecology of
millions of other plants and animals that depend upon each other for
survival in intricate relationships which we know little about or which we
are as yet completely unaware.
Because the federal government commonly permits
logging and mining companies to exploit public forest lands, and
because most conservation organizations support controlled harvesting of
trees or "sustainable forest", we believe joint private
ownership of forest land by people that share our belief that some forest
should never be cut, is the best chance for perpetual protection and
regeneration of old growth forest.
Therefore our members become joint owners of the
forest land purchased by Old Growth Forests Incorporated.
Our first goal is to provide permanent legal
protection for the trees on one million acres of forested land.
